Being home to the National Museum, Huye district has been at the forefront of promoting cultural values of Rwanda. The district has, in her development strategy, given particular focus to promoting culture through introduction and empowerment of cultural groups that have objectives oriented towards preservation of our heritage, unity and reconciliation, peace and security, fighting the genocidal ideology and recreation. It is in this regard that from November 19, 2007 the district started a district wide training drive to create "ITORERO RY'U RWANDA" in Huye District. The concept of "ITORERO RY'U RWANDA" is built on pillars of our fore fathers. It is a concept of preserving the nation's cultural, and traditional values at the same time keeping them in match with the ever changing times. At the inauguration of training of "ITORERO RY'U RWANDA" in Huye District, the Local Government Minister emphasised a need to re-energise our traditional and caultural activities and keep in line with Governments 4 major pillars of development, namely: Good governance Economic Development Promotion of Justice and Social welfare
The minister went ahead to say elaborate on what is expected of ITORERO RY'U RWANDA" saying that this will be a platform where citizens will be taught and informed of government agenda, strategy and objectives. It is also important to note that Huye district has a cultural troupe per sector. These troupes constitute citizens of particucular sectors and these become the cultural flag bareres of their individual sectors. The district organises periodic cultural competitions at the sector level aimed at promoting unity, entertainment cultural learning, sharing and exchange of experiences |
