REPORT OF THE HUYE DISTRICT’S STUDY TOUR TO MBALE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL IN EASTERN UGANDA FROM THE 12TH - 15TH JANUARY INTRODUCTION: The study tour took place from the 12th to 15th January 2009. This study tour was planned after a delegation of 40 people from the MBALE Municipality had visited HUYE District from the 23rd-25th July 2007 and as part of strengthening the existing relationship between the two institutions this study tour took place. The Rwandan delegation was comprised of 4 people; namely: 1. Dr. Charles NDAGIJE, President of HUYE District Council 2. Mr. Ildefonse GASANA Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs in HUYE District, 3. Mr. Peter KARASIRA in charge of Public Research and Advocacy in RALGA 4. Mr. Norman MUSENGIMANA; BDS Zone Manager for the Southern Province MBALE Town started as the Eastern Region’s Administrative Center for the colonial powers that came to Uganda in the 1900s, and it attracted Indian and Arab traders. It has a geographical area of 2,435 Ha. MBALE has a population of 70,437 according to the census of 2002 and has a ratio of 98.1 males to 100 females; and the land population density is 3,354 persons per sq. Km. it is located in 256 Km and 220 Km from Kampala via TORORO and TIRIRI respectively. It is divided into Wards and Cells. |
