Agricultural production Overview
Just like the whole country, more than 90% of the population of
the district of Huye
depends largely on a
griculturefor livelihood. Agricultural production is characterized by a
diversity of
food crops of which
sweet potato, sorghum, beans, soya, manioc and banana are the
commonly produced.
These various crops are often produced from the same piece of land.
One finds there
also stem crops such as:
the tomato
the cabbages
the aubergines
As for the fruit-bearing crops one finds the plum tree of Japan, the avocado tree,
and the papaw tree.

Coffee

It appears that the food crops are primarily the same ones in all the sectors, while the
principal culture of revenue is coffee.
Besides, the speciality and the comparative advantage of the District is the coffee
of Maraba.
It is important to note that the rice crop grown in marshes and wet valleys
is practised
by 70% of bordering households.
Also the marshes constitute potential which could compensate for the exiguity
of land.
Huye district constitutes
approximately 3.307 ha including more or less 1.964 arranged ha.
